NovoLog® is a mealtime insulin that helps control blood sugar spikes that happen when you eat.
NovoLog® is taken 5-10 minutes before the start of a meal. Your health care provider will tell you how to take NovoLog® based on your individual needs. If you think you need to adjust your insulin dose because of illness, new medicine, stress, change in diet, or change in activity level, make sure to talk to your health care provider.
Do not make any changes to your dose or the type of insulin you use unless you are told to do so by your health care provider.
NovoLog® is a formulation of insulin aspart. Two ingredients were added to the formulation of NovoLog® to create Fiasp®: a form of vitamin B3 (niacinamide), which increases the speed of initial insulin absorption, and an amino acid to aid stability.
The most common side effect of NovoLog® is low blood sugar. Some signs and symptoms include anxiety, irritability, mood changes, dizziness, sweating, confusion, and headache. Severe low blood sugar can be life threatening.
For a list of possible side effects, please see full Important Safety Information.
If you miss a dose of NovoLog®, be sure to take your NovoLog® dose at your next scheduled time. Do not double your dose. If you have questions about dosing, please talk to your health care provider.
NovoLog® can be mixed with NPH insulin (a form of human insulin). See the Prescribing Information for more details about mixing NovoLog® with other types of insulin. Any change in treatment should be made carefully while working with your health care provider.
Yes. But, as with all insulin, some medicines may affect the way that NovoLog® works. Some may increase your risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), while others may cause high blood sugar (hyperglycemia). As a result, your doctor may need to change your insulin dose. You also may need to watch your blood sugar very closely. It's very important to talk with your diabetes care team about any medicines you are taking.
