Do not share your Fiasp® with other people, even if the needle has been changed. You may give other people a serious infection, or get a serious infection from them.
Fiasp® is an injectable prescription mealtime insulin used to help improve blood sugar in adults with diabetes.
Fiasp® is a formulation of insulin aspart—the same active ingredient in NovoLog® that is proven to help control blood sugar in adults when you eat. Two ingredients were added to create Fiasp®: a form of vitamin B3 (niacinamide), which increases the speed of initial insulin absorption, and an amino acid to aid stability.
You can take Fiasp® at the start of the meal or 20 minutes after starting a meal. NovoLog® is taken 5 to 10 minutes before a meal.
Your health care provider will let you know which time is right for you. Do not make any changes to your dose or the type of insulin you use unless you are told to do so by your health care provider.
Fiasp® is taken by injection at the start of the meal or 20 minutes after starting a meal. Your health care provider will tell you how to take Fiasp® based on your individual needs. If you think you need to adjust your insulin dose because of illness, new medicine, stress, change in diet, or change in activity level, make sure to talk to your health care provider.
Do not make any changes to your dose or the type of insulin you use unless you are told to do so by your health care provider.
The most common side effect of Fiasp® is low blood sugar. Some signs and symptoms of low blood sugar include anxiety, irritability, mood changes, dizziness, sweating, confusion, and headache. Severe low blood sugar can be life-threatening. For a list of possible side effects, please see the full Important Safety Information.
About taking Fiasp®
Fiasp® FlexTouch® is the latest prefilled insulin device from Novo Nordisk. The Fiasp® FlexTouch® pen has been designed with no push-button extension and offers a click that you may hear or feel when your dose is delivered.a
aAfter dose counter has returned to 0, keep needle in skin for 6 seconds before the needle is removed. If you do not, you may not have received your full dose and you should check your blood sugar levels more often because you may need more insulin. You may or may not hear an audible click at end of dose.
While you don’t need to use a new pen for every dose, you should always use a new needle to help ensure sterility and prevent blocked needles. Do not store the Pen with the needle attached. Storing without the needle attached helps prevent leaking, blocking of the needle, and air from entering the Pen. Do not share your pen with other people even if the needle has been changed. You may give other people a serious infection, or get a serious infection from them. See the full Instructions For Use.
If you select the wrong dose, you can turn the dose selector forwards or backwards to the correct dose.
Fiasp® pens are designed to work with all Novo Nordisk needles—NovoFine® Autocover®, NovoFine® Plus, NovoFine®, and NovoTwist®.
Unopened pens that have been refrigerated (36°F to 46°F / 2°C to 8°C) can be kept until expiration date.
Unopened pens at room temperature (below 86°F / 30°C) can be kept for 28 days.
Opened pens that have been kept at room temperature or refrigerated will last for 28 days.
Do not recap the needle. Recapping can lead to a needle stick injury. Remove the needle from the Fiasp® FlexTouch® after each injection and dispose of it in an FDA-cleared sharps container. Storing the pen without the needle attached helps prevent leaking, blocking of the needle, and air from entering the pen.
If you do not have a sharps container, carefully slip the needle into the outer needle cap. Safely remove the needle and throw it away as soon as you can.
Put your used Fiasp® FlexTouch® and needles in an FDA cleared-sharps disposal container immediately after use.
Do not throw away (dispose of) loose needles and pens in your household trash.
If you do not have an FDA-cleared sharps disposal container, you may use a household container made of heavy-duty plastic (like a detergent bottle).
The Fiasp® FlexTouch® has a red push button and cartridge to differentiate it from other FlexTouch® pens. Always check the insulin label before each injection to avoid accidental mix-ups between different insulin products.
